Athleticism with Pilates.

Pilates for High Performance Athletes in a hybrid course (online modules + face to face practical workshop) that explores the use of Pilates to address the later stage rehabilitation goals of sports injuries and progression towards athletic development. This course will guide you through the clinical reasoning, design and implementation of a comprehensive, later stage Pilates based rehabilitation program for a range of common sports injury presentations.

During this hybrid course, you will explore the role of Pilates in athletic development and how Sports Physiotherapy can best utilise the benefits of Pilates. Online modules will examine the current evidence base and consensus statements for sports injury management and prevention, motor learning and coaching across a range of age groups and sporting populations.

With an emphasis on the later stages of Pilates rehabilitation, this hybrid course will guide you through several online modules discussing the use of Pilates for strength and power training, neuromuscular and agility training. In addition, common lower and upper limb sporting injury presentations, relevant rehabilitation and return to sport requirements are examined within the context of Pilates management. This workshop includes modifications to common Pilates exercises as well as the novel use of Pilates equipment.

You will also complete a face to face, practical workshop that covers the coaching and adaptation of a range Pilates exercises aimed at facilitating return to sport and athletic development as well as exploring the programming of Pilates exercises for various athletic clinical presentations. Lastly, on online Q&A session allows course attendees to further discuss aspects of the course material with course presenter John Contreras.

Pilates for High Performance Athletes will have you ‘Monday ready’ to start coaching your patients with a novel approach to Sports Pilates training.

Pilates for High Performance Athletes is suitable for clinicians currently teaching Pilates to an athletic population or those aiming to expand their athletic Pilates repertoire. All health professionals, students and new graduates with some prior Pilates experience are welcome. Those with no prior Pilates experience may attend, however be aware the practical content assumes attendees have some Pilates knowledge.

John is an APA Sports & Exercise Physiotherapists who graduated from The University of Melbourne in 2001. He completed a Master of Exercise Science (Strength & Conditioning) in 2011 from Edith Cowan University and a Master of Sports Physiotherapy from Latrobe University in 2016.
